The Greatest Day Ever

Presented by Adidas Originals, The Greatest Day Ever! is where carnival meets music festival.

This annual event prides itself on its high energy. Taking place at Coney Island every July, it features up-and-coming DJs, rappers, and pop artists alongside classic carnival rides. This proposed title sequence works to capture the high intensity of such an event.

Process

The Challenge

For this assignment, we were challenged to create a title sequence for an event, show, or movie. Working alongside Delainey Baker, we decided on The Greatest Day Ever! because of it’s chaotically fun energy. We knew that it would be a perfect opportunity to blend our styles and push our boundaries.

The Approach

The Greatest Day Ever! plays with some extreme styles, so Delainey and I decided to utilize tactile and digital elements. We spray painted textures, threw paint and shaving cream at sheets, and poured melted wax over block letters. We recorded and photographed everything and utilized these elements to bring color to our glitched animation, which consisted of our fictional lineup’s portraits and typographic treatment of their names.

The Outcome

The final result of this animation is full of energy and excitement. Between the funky combination of glitch and cel animation, the bright colors, and the illustrations of the artists, Delainey and I felt that we had done the event justice.
